"When Phan was a child, his family fled Vietnam by boat and never looked back. And so it is with this chef, educated as an architect, who wanted a restaurant design without Asian cliches. Phan chose architect Olle Lundberg, a neighbor of his on Third Street and designer of Larry Ellison's modernist San Francisco home. He asked for a chic, understated space that could be hosed down. Lundberg had never designed a restaurant before, but as far as Phan was concerned, it was a perfect match."
