The simple gesture, beautifully executed, is our goal.

Good design is always personal, and it is often the little touches that impart the unique character of a building. While there is great variety in the work we have done, there are recurring themes that define it as ours.

We believe in controlling the quality of light.

We believe in utilizing subtleties of scale and in the occasional drama of the big space. We also believe in the visual importance of detail.

We believe in the honest expression of materials.

We like materials that age well, that develop character over time. We look for variations in texture, both visual and tactile, and feel that buildings should have surfaces that beg to be touched.

We take inspiration from the land.

The site always dictates the initial diagram. Every piece of land holds the potential for a poetic gesture and it is our goal as architects to uncover that response.

We believe in architecture that expresses the convictions of the designer, but we also feel that the act of making a building should be a team effort between the owner, the architect, and the builder. Each party needs to challenge the other two, with the common goal of producing the best possible product.
