Honey is the one identified food that, once sealed from air and water, never goes bad. Out the Door gave us the opportunity to experiment with it as an aesthetic element. The Lundberg Design shop was heavily involved in the fabrication and installation of this project, specifically the honey wall and kiri board panels. We sourced over 80 different types of California honeys, all of varying hues and levels of viscosity (honey color depends on what crops the bees were harvesting). Using a double boiler, the honey was melted and poured into 2" thick acrylic panels that were then threaded shut. To display and light the panels we fabricated a steel framework into which the panels were set and attached using custom clips. The kiri panel wall was created using a similar framework that our shop also fabricated and installed. Project Fabricators: Jeff Loehmann, Ryan Hughes, Wylie Price, Nick Polansky |
