This small 2000 square foot restaurant located in downtown Napa was designed to be a striking but informal sidewalk café. A 20 foot long folding glass wall opens up the space to the sidewalk - enabling outdoor seating in nice weather and making the establishment a literal part of the pedestrian-active neighborhood. The colors and materials were chosen to create a warm, comfortable atmosphere while still promoting a sustainable, modernist aesthetic. Tabletops made from end-grain plywood scrap, an elm slab bar milled from a downed tree, and a custom light and sign built from melted aluminum scrap are among the numerous environmentally responsible elements of the design. This concept of an environmentally conscious business is then carried out in the food - modern, regional cooking focusing on local ingredients, and the wine - with an emphasis on local organic and biodynamic product. The tables, sign, and custom steel and glass front door were all fabricated in the Lundberg Design shop. Client: Richard Poliak
